We are Wilder about Trails
Our wilder places needs wilder people. Our vision is to foster an empowered community of trail enthusiasts who inspire one another to grow, play & perform wilder whilst stepping up for our wilder places. We wish to do this by highlighting toe-tingling trails for playing wilder, whilst providing an aspirational, educational & non-competitive platform for us all to grow & perform wilder.
Wild Trails is a community project provided by Find Your Feet Australia and has been inspired by the idea & ground work of former Tasmanian resident, Jahn Pahwa and his Kunanyi-Wellington Loop (est. 2016). Thanks to Jahn’s concept, many Tasmanian trail runners have taken part in this non-competitive challenge and this route can still be enjoyed today as part of our Wilder Trails project.
Wilder Trails takes Jahn's original concept to further reaches, showcasing other trails and routes around our home state of Tasmania that may otherwise remain unknown, forgotten or overlooked by the ‘sexier’ places or races. Whilst we lean towards trail running, the routes can be enjoyed by walkers over the course of a day, or as a multi-day hike. This project is a collaborative effort and the routes have been developed by many eager trail enthusiasts around the state with the motivation to showcase their own 'backyard'. This allows the routes to support many of Tasmania’s smaller regional communities and businesses. As part of this project we wish to encourage our guests to these trails to enjoy local hospitality and share stories.
We strive to develop safe, and community, cultural & environmentally sensitive routes that every trail enthusiast can enjoy. The detailed mapping for Wilder Trails is proudly brought to you by our friends Neil and Graham at Terrainium. They have donated hours of their time to keeping us safe on the trails!
The proceeds from the Wilder Trails merchandise allows us to maintain this project as well as to support community-driven environmental & cultural projects around Tasmania, especially our friends of the trails and National Parks.
This is also an educational project. It is our aim that participants leave no trace and with only: incredible stories to share; increased knowledge & confidence; reverence for the regions and their communities, past, present & emerging; and with a strong desire to help champion for protections & enhancements.
In summary, we hope that trail runners and hikers around Australia can enjoy Tasmania’s most beautiful trails and regions, and be rewarded in doing so whilst knowing that our actions can help regenerate our environment & communities. We look forward to meeting you out on the trails, your collection of pins and badges proudly affixed to your pack. Let us share whoops of joy & excitement for our future adventures!
