The geodiversity of the Wellington Range provides the physical foundation for the landscape, ecosystems and character of Wellington Park and rationale for selecting this exciting route.
Vistas down Snake Plains; a majestic river crossing; a steep climb to Cathedral Rock; ups and downs on the Montagu Thumbs; leaping Wellington Falls; and the finale - rock hopping the Potato Fields.
South of Penguin rise the prominent cliffs and peaks of the Dial Range. This range is a chain of mountains and valleys given its name because of the silhouette of one of its summits, the Gnomon, which resembles an ancient sundial.
This multiple-use forest area provides for a wide variety of recreational pursuits, including individual trails for running, walking, mountain biking, trail biking and horse riding.

● This route starts at the famous Penguin Cradle Trail car park. You might see PCT white sign or orange triangles.
● From the car park follow the signs towards Mount Montgomery along the shared Myrtle Creek Track. After the creek and Mount Montgomery Road junction go left at the next junction taking the trail signposted to Mount Montgomery.
● The track winds steeply to the mountain top (470m ASL).
● Retrace the path ~200m and look out for an old track junction. Turn left across a plateau just below the summit and down.
● Left again at the signs marking the Penguin Cradle Trail towards the Leven River. This is known as “keddies”.
● After ~2km you will meet a gravel road and the Dial Road Car Park. Stay right at intersections and head uphill, you are leaving the PCT!
● Follow Dial Rd for ~3km to the Mount Gnomon Car Park at the end of Ironcliffe Rd.
● Take the track uphill to the summit of Mount Gnomon (490m ASL), then continue past Mount Dial (480m ASL).
● Follow the Dial Gnomon Track for a further 4km to Montgomery Rd. Stay high and avoid distracting bike tracks.
● Keep left past the earlier outbound Mount Montgomery tracks.
● Follow the trail back to the inbound Myrtle Creek Track junction. Follow downstream, returning directly back to the car park.
